New Auction Website With £20 Free For Joining!!
16 Jun 2005
Hi there everyone! My name is Steve and I have just started an auction website. It is going to be massive. If you do sign up, please help us by listing a few items or even try and win the offers.

The site is called Lucky Day Bid and its only been running just under 4 days.

www.luckydaybid.com

We have over 25 members and over 40 auctions already. We're going to be HUGE! The site is accessable by the whole world, mainly UK, USA & Europe. Everyone is welcome!!

The FREE offer we have, is you receive £20 free for joining and £30 for each and every referral. You must get the person you referred to contact us with YOUR username so we can credit your account with the bonus. The credits are non withdraw able and can ONLY be used on Lucky Day Bid to pay for listing fees, stores, etc.

The second offer we have is, the member to list the most DIFFERENT items by the 22nd of June 2005, wil receive a massive £150 bonus paid in to their Lucky Day Bid account.

The third offer we have is simple. The member to list 10 or more DIFFERENT items in the same week (within 7 days of the first item being listed) will receive a nice £75 paid in to their Lucky Day Bid account.

These offers are UNIQUE to Lucky Day Bid and are a great way to minimize costs for listings etc.

Refer as many people as you like, there is no limit to how much you can earn. The more you earn, the more potentially FREE auctions you can get.

Remember though the credit is non withdraw able and can only be used to pay for listing fees, stores etc.

These are fantastic offers and should not be missed. We are hoping over the next few months to have over 1000 members by October and that should have doubled by the new year and then triple every month after.

We are deadly serious about taking on ebay and we intend to be around for a very long time.

So go to www.luckydaybid.com today and sign up. (Opens in a new window) Its free to join and you get £20 for doing so. Remember, earn more credit for referring everyone you know, even people you don’t know

Thanks for looking and we hope to see you soon.

Just looked at the site, you now (8 months later) have 360 users and only one item online. Would be interested in hearing what you learned and why you believe it has not worked out so far.

Hi there,

Due to ill health over the past months, I have been unable to maintain Lucky Day Bid.

I am now in the best of health and if you look at the site again, I think you will see that I have recovered well and that Lucky Day Bid is finally attracting new members.

I noticed your website offers to sell items for people. Is this run by you? Or are you an employee? Or are you just promoting it?

I would appreciate it if you could reply to the following email address admin@luckydaybid.com as I will not have much time to come searching for your answer.

Many thanks.

Dear Steve,

I am the MD and a shareholder of Auctioning4u (more on our website www.auctioning4u.co.uk). I was replying to your initial email mostly due to my interest in the economics of web auction sites. I am curious why you believe that you can make your site a success although you have only lower fees to offer. Why do you believe sellers will come to your site, spend the time to list their items when you do not have the buyers?

Hi there,

Lucky Day Bid has many different features that other auction websites do not offer.

One of which is the format the auction starting prices are in. On Lucky Day Bid, the starting prices of all auctions are shown in 3 different currencies. Pound Sterling, UD Dollars and Euros. This alone is a unique feature to Lucky Day Bid and ensures that international buyers know exactly how much an item will cost them in their currency.

Another feature is the Community Forum and Chat Features we have. Not all auction sites can offer a forum or a chat facility, yet on Lucky Day Bid we have both. Ok, you have to register seperately to the Community Forum, but its still a great feature. Members can chat to potential buyers and sellers to build up trust before commiting to anything.

As you mentioned, cheaper auction prices which is the key here. Other auction sites charge quite a lot for simple features such as homepage features or online stores. At Lucky Day Bid, you only pay £24.95 to list on the homepage which is 50% less than most other auction sites.

Plus, we only charge a one time fee of £34.95 for an online store. Pay once, then never again. Most other auction sites charge a monthly fee of between £6 and £300 per month. So members can save loads using the online stores at Lucky Day Bid.

There are many features that are different from other auction sites and that is why Lucky Day Bid will be successful.

It's only been 9 months since the site was launched and I think its doing very well considering.

Last year the UK's number 1 best selling internet magazine called Web User, which is the sister magazine of Computer Active, reviewed Lucky Day Bid in their magazine and published it in the "Best New Websites" section. This alone is a great achivement on its own.

Plus, by writing this review, they managed to give Lucky Day Bid a number 1 ranking in Google, via their website. This alone takes a very long time and lots of money to achieve and I have achieved it in less than 9 months.

I hope you can see now why Lucky Day Bid is so important and why it should be a success.

Thank you very much for your questions. If you have any more, please could you direct them to admin@luckydaybid.com and I will answer them via there as I have lots to do over the next few weeks and wont have time to visit forums.

Many thanks,

Steven Nicholson - Owner of Lucky Day Bid

I am still struggling to see why you are so optimistic (you have 29 items live today). I believe that even if you charge no fees and have all the above features that the site will not get the necessary traction. No sellers resulting in no buyers reinforcing the potential sellers' interest in listing on the site... What am I missing?

I`m with Christian on this one...there are probably 10 new auction sites launched every week in various guises and levels of sophistication. I was contacted two weeks ago by a local couple who had spent 18 months and alot of money developing a very good, professional auction site - they were asking if I could help promote it - but I had to decline as I believe it will simply struggle to get out of the "catch 22" or is it "chicken and egg" (?) scenario and I felt they would be throwing money away. Finally, with regards the LuckyDayBid site, I would be concerned that eBay may take exception to the "look and feel" of it should it ever take off...
I wish you well!

I think your being particularly hard on this guy - and before I get it in the neck for being a newbie.

It may be true that new opps are springing up - but hey that's business, or maybe it isnt, - if you dont get any

I believe this market will be one of the fastest growing and most successful for years to come. So if (you get the offering and the branding right) there are BIG rewards to be had!

I personally believe competition is good and that although there is a recognised market for these services already in place, no-one has cornered any sizeable percentage or even captured the market or the publics imagination!!

There will be (half a dozen or so brands) that will become immediately indentifiable and go on the be household names, and many others not associated with these brands will still make a decent living on the back of these market drivers, by perhaps offering more personalised services.

But nevertheless he's giving it a go and he's trying to raise some interest for his business - What's wrong with that?

We're doing the same and we're currently looking for partners - I thought as there are so many experienced pros on here it would be the place to go.

The guy might be over egging the reality, the name or the site isnt great, but he obviously believes in what he's trying to achieve and it might be better for all if you gave hime some pointers on what he should be doing, and how to build his business, instead of piling in with negatives...

Or are we a little scared of competition

Just a thought - Jim.

Just looked at the site again, still only about 10+ items and to Jimmac's comment, I wish Steve all the best with Luck Day Bid. Competition in the platform field would be great!

I believe for sites to compete with eBay or Amazon one will have to either start of with a very large inventory for sale or has to specialise in a much smaller segment, say chess sets for collectors.

Maybe others can contribute other ideas or points of views for the benefit of Steve and others who like to start a new platform?
