Hi,

There are a few other discussions about these products, try www.webretailer.com/search.asp?query=deepanalysis

deepanalysis and AuctionIntelligence are really very different products. DA uses official eBay data so you can get quick results, whereas AI gathers data by automating completed items searches, so the results take longer but the detail and reports can be better.

Could you explain a little further the different methodologies used by AuctionIntelligence and hammer tap to compile data.

Thanks

Hi David,

HammerTap and other eBay licensed research tools are provided with completed auction data under the eBay Market Data Program (or via reseller DataUnison). So they don't have to compile the data at all, they simply take a feed from eBay.

AuctionIntelligence and other unlicensed providers "scrape" eBay's completed items search pages to harvest the data. This is against eBay's user (and affiliate) terms of use, which prohibit automated access to the site. However, it is still widespread in unlicensed applications such as sniping programs.

Here is some more information on page scraping.
