help needed: check-out software / services
3 Mar 2006
Hello fellow members, I am a newbie to this forum. I used to sell jeans on ebay a year ago part time and then stopped because I need to focus on my studying. Now, I am in a long term holiday and thinking to go back ebay.

i sell clothings & shoes on ebay with a partner from china. basically, i handle transactions, listings, and my partner handles picture-taking, shipping and inventury. problem often accurse between us, esp when a package shipped to a wrong place or shipped wrong color/ size. So, here I’m thinking to get a checkout software or service. In my listings, i always let buyer choose their size & color of their clothing or shoes. but it is a lot of work when some ebay newbie or some "busy" buyers don’t read or understand the listings and they just paid without tell me what they want on color or size. so i have to email back and forth with them to confirm everything.

Here is what i like my software do it:
Let buyer choose the size, color when they make payment so I don't need to remind them.
so after my partner can just open the software and see who has paid and what they want, and then just prepare the package and don't need me to email here everything. This will save us a lot time on communication.

Also one very important thing is that:
When i open it to check who's paid, it doesn’t connect ebay right away and just collect information. Because ebay don't like sellers from china and if my partner log in ebay from china, it is kind of risky. i want it to be when iog in, everything is prepared already.

Look at oscommerce it's pretty robust and free, I think. Lots of add-ons.

Sounds like you need a full-service eBay solution. I\'d reccomend you look at the review section of this site to find one that suts your need.

A solution like Kyozou (what I use) can handle the issues you mentioned including allowing log-ins from other countries.

thanx.
i think i just need a checkout service..not a whole package...my main purpose is to save my communication time with my partner.

it could be software..or a website. when i log in, it just show who has made payment and there address. so my partner can just log-in and get all the info needed for shipping.

i know some software has the function of who has made the payment..but i need to log-in paypal to get their address. i just want my buyer enter their address, phone # and the size they want when they make payment...and when we make shipment, we just log in and get everything..

i think it is reallli a simple service..but i just don;t know where to find it...so...please guys...give me some advice and i will be very grateful. thanx

Hi kedo1009, welcome to the site

You normally only find checkout services as part of full auction or eCommerce management packages. As you don't want all that, I think your options are limited to order management solutions such as SendPal and ShipWorks, or as your needs are very specific you could get something custom-developed (but that might not integrate too well with eBay).

If you do try one of those products a review would be much appreciated.

do you think that checkout services such like Andale..auctionsworks..ChannelAdvisor..would be work with me?

they offer check-out service...but when my partner login in those websites and get the payment & shipping information. it will not connect to ebay or paypal right..?

Yes, they would work, but Marketworks and ChannelAdvisor Pro are full auction management solutions, not just checkout services. They connect to eBay/PayPal via their own servers, not your own browser. Andale do offer their checkout separately.

Andale suffered a week-long outage in November last year, after which eBay said they would withdraw their access to the Checkout Redirect service from 1 February 2006. It's not clear if eBay have actually gone through with that, but I think you should be aware of it if you are considering Andale.

Theres also the option of using oscommerce (as said above) and using AuctionBlox with it aswell to give you a checkout redirect from ebay straight into your website.

I'm sorry if you have misunderstood - I only linked to those providers because you mentioned them in your previous post.

They are both hosted, comprehensive (and not cheap!) auction management services. You can find out more about them both here - including reviews - and on their own sites. It's not for me to say which is better, but they are comparable services in features and target audience.

From what you said before, I didn't think you wanted a full auction management service, so you might do better looking at the specialist order management tools or Andale's stand-alone checkout service.

No offense, you might consider doing a ton of reading and studying before trying to sell. The only reason I say this is because of your question as to what is "oscommerce". Someone gave you the website address and apparently you haven't looked at it. OSCommerce is a shopping cart that many host providers provide free because it is an open source product. This information is readily available on the web. there are other versions of OSCommerce available as well.

ECommerce is exciting and can be rewarding. Information is available everywhere. Take your time to research and learn before jumping in. Even armed with lots of information, you will still make mistakes, at least the mistakes you make might not be as costly before not understanding.

These forums are great for information but you still have to do research yourself.

Happy studying!
