Will OnBuy be the new eBay for UK sellers ?

The market is crying out for a new online marketplace, but will onBuy be the one ?

We were first contacted by them in October 2013 with the promise of a fresh new online marketplace with low commission, no monthly fees and no payment processing fees. Their lack of an API put us off as no API = no stock control. There were sellers on the marketplace at that time but no volume of sales to talk about.

Fast forward to September 2014 and they have been bought out ! Site closed to sellers and buyers and a new pricing strategy for their forthcoming launch. Commission will be 3.5% for the first two years (then 7% across all categories), but there will be a £50 / £100 per month fee depending on the type of account you want.

OnBuy are planing to (re)launch on the 1st July 2015 with TV, radio and magazine advertising.

Will this be another selling platform that offers so much and gives so little, or could this be just what the online market needs ?

@Bigian13 If you had to pay the £100 tariff it would be quite expensive, even with the reduced commission fees , then there is paypal fees which will stay the same. They would need to have a lot of marketing and advertising in place before I would be tempted. eBay is a very hostile selling environment for sellers now-a-days but there is no doubt it is a household name. I wish the new endeavour would take off, it would be great to have a viable alternative to eBay. Etsy is no good unless you make your own goods and I tried Bonanza but found it not designed well enough for the practicalities of International Postage.

As stated in the original message, they claim there will be no payment processing fees. (why does it have to be PayPal ?)

If they could provide sales equivalent to 10% of our ebay sales, we would be approximately £6000 min a year better off.
