Any success with eBay's new valet serivce?
4 Mar 2015
Hello all!

I sell on a few different marketplaces currently and make a fair profit off of them (roughly 2.5m last year).
I use and abuse the power of FBA with Amazon (to an extent) but I want to know more about eBay valet. I follow the eBay forums and discussion boards and know about it from people who have read about it and such, but not so much from people who have actually used it. Does anyone here use it? If so, would you recommend and how would you compare it to FBA?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

@Thomas Bailey I've sent in 2 boxes with different things through eBay Valet. The main difference is that eBay does all of the work for you. If you're sending in name brand items that sell themselves, you won't have any issue, the listers will be able to easily describe it and they'll price it for auction-style at around 20% less than current selling amount so it will sell. Again, they take care of the description, photos, shipping, you just get money in your PayPal account when it sells or they ship it back to you. Living in NYC, I like this.

Where people are mistaken is they believe experts in all industries are behind the listing. Model train experts aren't sitting behind the desk, ready to type out your 1964 HO scale Union Pacific train set, and go into serious detail the way the owner would. When you read forum posts about how eBay Valet is doing people wrong, it's because their expectations are set at a serious high stake.

Send them items that sell themselves. If you expect detailed descriptions outside of mere measurements, color, blemishes, etc, then sell it yourself. That's my two cents on the Valet Program.

@SureDone,

Thank you that's actually very helpful. I only sell name brand and brand new products so this might open a new door for me. I just need to toss up my best sellers and figure out what kind of quantities I need to send.

Thank you for the input!

@Thomas Bailey If you have quantity, send them 1 of each. See how it goes. Fill a 12x12x12 box they send (package it well) and include a paper with descriptions if it gives you peace of mind.

At the end of the day, if the commission ends up being more than the time you would spend, you can sell the rest yourself. But comparing FBA vs Valet, is comparing "still working" to "not working". It's just a matter of control over your products.
