Confusion with Mgt Programs (Trading Globally from China)
26 Feb 2009
Hello Everyone,

As I've lived in China for the last 15 yrs I think I'm in a good place to start an eCommerce business. Initially I'm targeting multiple eBay locations and my own online store but would like to add Amazon and others later.

I have been through some of the historical threads on this excellent site but as the speed of progress in this industry is incredibly fast some of the recommendations and information is naturally outdated.

Therefore, I would like to get your opinions on software I am considering, I do expect (hope) to start developing large numbers, since I have 80,000 (yes really) wholesalers and factories within a 2 hours train ride from which to select products !

I am getting confused with pricing, which is difficult to gauge for a newbie especially since there are so many variables, and also whether I can find all the functions I think I need (ha !) in one piece of software !

I have got myself plenty of excellent free tools for calculating fees for Ebay / Paypal etc. and I've also bought Hot Item Finder & Quick Books. The management programs I'm looking at so far are :

Vendio (seemed to be lacking in functions compared to some of the other programs - or I just couldn't find them) ?
eSeller Pro (but I've not had a response from them yet but it seems to have everything - although it looks expensive) ?
Merchant Run Global Link (I've just come across this one but it has the advantage of what looks excellent global functions) ?
inkFrog (nice, simple front-end ... but does it lack essential functions) ?
Spoon Feeder (I like the fun front-end and functions but it does seem a little fussy ) ?
AuctionSage - Looks good to me so far. Opinions in comparison to the others above ?

Obviously there is the conundrum of whether to go on-line or desktop. I would prefer the later I think but I'm not sure if there are any major disadvantages to having my software off-line for hours a day.

Any recommendations for Merchant Services providers would be appreciated too !

Many thanks in advance for your valuable time & opinion.

Hi Frogfish, sorry for the delay replying.

This does point to MerchantRun GlobalLink which was designed from the ground up for sellers based in China. While the other packages you mention are all very capable, they are aimed primarily at domestic sellers.

Also, take a look at the article by their president Ryan Miller if you haven't come across it already:
