Help With More Sales
22 Dec 2014
I've been selling on eBay for just over 2 months and I do dropshipping so when a person buys and item it gets shipped to them. I would like to know what can I do to get more sales. I do not have an ebay store cause right now I do have enough money for it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Patricia

To be honest, in our experience at least, eBay stores do not bring in that much extra business so do not worry about that too much. It does depend on the type of product you are selling though and whether you can cross sell products.

It seems that the main thing to do is get your keywords right in your listing so that buyers can find your listings easily and the rest is down to price. Feedback does not seem to matter that much these days either unless it is very poor.

How do I know ? We do drop shipping for a number of clients, and I sometimes do their ebay listings as well as websites. These are people with little or no feedback, no fancy templates, no ebay stores, and a price that is higher than ours, but just by either changing a word or reordering the words in the title their sales on certain products have at times outstripped ours.

Have you thought of selling on Amazon or Sears or any of the other channels out there ? Again a lot depends on the items you are selling.

Having your own website to send customers to after they have made an initial purchase through ebay can increase your margins on repeat business. Don't be put off by the cost of having your own website. There are solutions available such as PrestaShop and Magento amongst others that are free if you have the time to do the work yourself. You just have to pay for hosting the site as well as any transaction costs.

When selling on-line there is no quick fix. It all goes down to the products you are selling, the time you have to spend and your budget / profit margin.

If I can be of any further help just post here or send me a PM.

Ian covered most bases on this, I also sell on eBay and Amazon for a redistribution warehouse that manufactures and dropships.
The most important thing I can tell you is to research your products. Find a great vendor that is willing to work with you on competitive pricing, and it never hurts if you have a garage with extra space in it to ask about pallet prices on items that have proven sales. Sometimes it can be difficult to take off once your foot is in the door, but once you do.. from my experience it always has a hearty reward for all the manpower put into it. Good luck with your endeavors!

If you're relying solely on your eBay store for a flux of sales that may be difficult. Do you sell a wide variety of items?

SEO is going to be one of your greatest allies on eBay. Make sure those keywords are front and center on your listings.

There are a lot of great sales channels out there worth being on. Some better than others depending on what you're selling.

Newegg, Amazon, Rakuten are a few that come to mind. If the channel is appropriate for your products then you're encouraging more exposure for your products and profits as well. These new avenues could be just what you need to help.

It takes a lot of time and effort to get those sales up and get customers aware of you and your products as well as build that relationship and reputation of being a dependable seller.

Keep plugging away and you'll get there.

PM if you need any further insights or help and good luck
