It doesn’t matter if online buyers are looking for exactly the product you are selling. The secret to whether they buy it lies in their ability to find it. The better your items are described, the higher the online buyers’ ability to find them. Today we will explain what you should pay attention to while preparing the description of the item that you want to be found and sold.

Must-have list in the item description:
  • Keywords
  • Unique identifiers
  • Title
  • Description

  • Put yourself in your customers` shoes (keywords)

    Describing any listing requires putting yourself in your customers’ shoes and thinking like they do. With this in mind, remember that customers do not search for items by entering words such as “wow”, “great”, or “awesome”. The best practice regarding keywords and the one recommended by eBay is to pick five keywords related to the item you want to sell. Those five keywords should be the words that people are using in the search engine while looking for the product you want to sell. When you have collected the keywords, then use them in the title and the description.

    Include the items that are specific (unique identifiers)

    Online buyers search for specific brand names or even a Manufacturer's Part Number (MPN) in the Item Specifics. That is why it is so important to include unique identifiers in the item description. To increase the chance of your product being found, you might add unique identifiers such as Universal Product Codes (UPCs), European Article Numbers (EANs), or International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) to the item description. By adding these you will increase the chances of your item being found in eBay, Google and Yahoo.

    Keep it simple and understandable (titles)

    As you already know “wow” and “totally brand new” are not the best words for titles (they might even be the worst). “Wow” actually means nothing and “totally brand new” gives the buyer the feeling that the item may not be as new as he would hope...because why would someone like to highlight that, when it is actually normal for the item to be new if it is not in the category “used items”? Be aware that the listing title is a key factor in natural searches. Effective title elements are the name of the item designer, brand name, size, color, model number. What you definitely should avoid are using website addresses, email addresses, or phone numbers, caps, spelling mistakes, false claims. Don't use any words that may be considered to be an illegal item by either governmental or eBay standards.Don't include brand names other than the specific brand name used by the company that manufactured or produced the item you're listing. This is called keyword spamming and isn't allowed on eBay.

    Provide a good whole picture (description)

    The description of your product is your opportunity to give the potential online buyer all the information he needs in order to convince him to buy the product. Use bold headers and a font size of 12 or 14 maximum. Your description should be approximately 200 words long, with the most important keyword phrases comprising 5 to 7% of the total. (If you have 200 words of text, this means you'll want to use your keywords 10 to 14 times.) Although keywords should definitely be included, they should not be used too excessively in the description - this is known as keyword spamming and is considered a violation of eBay policy.
