Shipping software ShipWorks has released product enhancements including a new shipping workflow called "The Works".

The Works is designed to simplify shipping, particularly for warehouses with large volumes.

"Warehouse shipping continues to evolve in line with FBA and other new, innovative fulfillment options," said Dominic Lozano, General Manager of ShipWorks. "We have been working closely with our customers to make sure ShipWorks keeps them competitive in this rapidly changing industry. We've enhanced our software for performance optimization that will result in processing labels faster, and we're particularly excited about the launch of The Works."

The Works is a simplified user interface for processing labels for a single piece shipping workflow. Today, most warehouses have individual stations for FedEx, UPS, and USPS. Warehouse workers must prep the packages to get it to the correct station for the operator to weigh and print that carrier's label. Now, with The Works, there is no need for multiple stations. All carriers exist in a single solution at a single station. A one-time scan tells the system what label to print, and in less than a second, the box is waiting for the carrier.

"Warehouses finally have an automated and installed multi-carrier solution that allows a single scan to print the right label at the right time," said Lozano. "All employees can be trained on a single application instead of three different applications, which will allow warehouses to scale as needed rather than imposing artificial bottlenecks due to resource contention."

The latest ShipWorks release also includes a product catalog import and management feature, and support for custom data fields.

Shipping software ShipWorks has hired St. Louis executive Dominic Lozano as the company's new General Manager.

Lozano will lead the execution of ShipWorks' growth strategy, building out the organization to support it, while overseeing all operations.

"Fifteen years ago, ShipWorks invented e-commerce shipping, and the company keeps trailblazing its way through innovation, technical expertise, and endless support for large e-commerce merchants," said Lozano. "It's longstanding leadership position, forward thinking direction, and talented people were three of the many reasons I wanted to join ShipWorks. As a native of St. Louis who is partial to start-ups, I've watched ShipWorks build its brand, customer base, and app over many years. I feel very fortunate to be joining and leading a local success story with tremendous growth opportunities ahead."

Prior to ShipWorks, Lozano was Senior Vice President of Network & Infrastructure at St. Louis-based Contegix, a leading cloud application services provider. At Contegix, Lozano was responsible for strategically analyzing all aspects of the business for opportunities that aided in product, process, and organizational growth for the company, which has nearly 270 employees and annual revenues in excess of $60 million.

During his stint at Contegix, Lozano was named to the 2018 St. Louis Business Journal's 40 Under 40, the publication's popular list of local movers and shakers under the age of 40. This year, there were more than 500 nominees seeking a selection. Before Contegix, Lozano was Director of Operations at Nimbus EMR, a St. Louis start-up that develops innovative long-term-care EMR software.

The Lozano family's success in business is well known in the St. Louis community. Father, Bob Lozano, co-founded several companies, including Paylinx, a payment processing software company, and brother, Gabe, is co-founder and CEO of LockerDome, a native ad and publishing platform that powers content for thousands of brands and media companies.

ShipWorks Enterprise has been built specifically for high-volume shippers, and can be used from hundreds of workstations across different offices and locations.

The Enterprise edition can import sales orders from Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) including TMS, OMS and ERP platforms. Data connectivity options include OBDC, Excel, CSV, TXT and XML files, and the ShipWorks API.

Key features of ShipWorks Enterprise include:

  • Workforce management, auditing and reporting tools.

USPS postage printing company Stamps.com is to purchase rival company Endicia for $215m, following a series of acquisitions including ShipStation and ShipWorks.

Ken McBride, Stamps.com chairman and CEO, said, "The acquisition of Endicia represents a significant strategic investment in our high volume shipper business. Endicia is a great complement to Stamps.com's traditional strength in the enterprise and small business mailing segments. High volume shipping is the fastest growing segment within the mailing and shipping space and this acquisition will allow us to accelerate our innovation, enhance and streamline our sales and marketing, and accelerate our growth. Together, the two companies will be able to more effectively compete with the very large competitors we face today in the mailing and shipping industry."

Endicia's parent company Newell Rubbermaid announced on Tuesday that it had made a definitive agreement to make the sale.

Michael Polk, Newell Rubbermaid president and chief executive officer, said, "The announced sale of our Endicia business furthers our strategy of strengthening and focusing our portfolio to create a faster growing, higher margin business. While a very attractive asset, Endicia is not focused in the core of our portfolio, and under new ownership is in an exciting position to continue innovating and offering the best possible solutions and service for its customers and partners."

Stamps.com was founded in 1996 to offer US postage printing over the Internet. It claims more than 80% of the internet postage subscription market, and has seen its annual revenue rise from $85.5m in 2010 to $147.3m in 2014. Stamps.com said it would fund the acquisition with $50m in cash and $165m in financing.

USPS postage label printing system Stamps.com has acquired order management software ShipWorks.

ShipWorks founders Brian Nottingham and Wes Clayton

Stamps.com purchased ShipWorks for approximately $22 million in cash. Stamps.com plans for ShipWorks to operate as an independent, wholly-owned subsidiary, led by the existing management team.

"We're very excited to become a part of Stamps.com," said Wes Clayton, ShipWorks Co-General Manager and COO. "We've long enjoyed a strong partnership with Stamps.com and with the acquisition we look forward to continuing to build the ShipWorks business with the support of the Stamps.com team."

ShipWorks is integrated with over 50 popular online sales and marketplace systems including eBay, PayPal, Amazon, Yahoo! and others. Stamps.com enables nearly 500,000 customers to print U.S. Postal Service-approved postage.

Order management software ShipWorks has added a new feature which auto-populates shipping data.

"ShipSense" is a new feature that automatically populates the weight, dimensions and customs information (if applicable) based on recent shipments of the same items.

uShip is a marketplace for large shipments, that are too large to affordably ship through conventional carriers. ShipWorks customers can receive a $5 rebate on all shipments sent via uShip or a volume discount when they ship five or more shipments per month via uShip.

"uShip is a pioneer in the LTL marketplace, and their ability to provide streamlined shipping solutions for oversized items is recognized across the industry," said Wes Clayton, Co-CEO of ShipWorks. "Like ShipWorks, they are known for their reliability and focus on the customer, and we look forward to partnering with them so that ShipWorks customers can easily ship oversized items using uShip’s LTL services."

Ecommerce order management tool ShipWorks is now compatible with popular accounting package QuickBooks.

The new integration is provided through a third party solution called Cloud Cart Connector, which synchronizes customers, inventory, products and orders with QuickBooks.

"Many of our customers rely on QuickBooks to manage their accounting needs, so we believe this new integration with Cloud Cart Connector will help them immensely," said Wes Clayton, Co-CEO and COO of ShipWorks. "Cloud Cart Connector is highly praised by reviewers for its ease of use, its worldwide compatibility, and because there are no files to install."

An online demo, getting started guide and trial sign up is available from Cloud Cart Connector.
